MEPs' declarations of financial interest are public, but pretty inaccessible. Let's bring them into the open web.The basic idea: download current+past declarations of interests for MEPs. Put them online in an easy-to-access place (MEPWatch?), so citizens can read them.Extensions if we have time:
- The declarations are handwritten, thus near-impossible to search. Crowdsource the work of annotating/transcribing the forms, and provide a search. Let citizens find out: which MEPs have links to weapons companies? Who has the most expensive house in Brussels?
- Work with journalists and citizens to investigate these financial declarations. Which MEPs have made omissions in their declarations? Who has revealed something surprising or outrageous in their declarations
